Interpretation of the Bible / Ephesians 1:17
In Ephesians 1:17, the apostle Paul writes to the Christians in Ephesus, asking God to give them “may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” This request is an expression of his deep desire for the Christians in Ephesus to grow in their knowledge of God.
To better understand this verse, it is important to look at the words that Paul uses. First, it speaks of “the God of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This is a declaration of the relationship that exists between God and Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Son of God, and He was in perfect fellowship with His heavenly Father. Second, the apostle calls God “the glorious Father.” This expression emphasizes God’s divine character and His greatness.
Wisdom and revelation are two different things. Wisdom is the ability to effectively apply knowledge. Revelation, on the other hand, is the act of revealing or revealing something that was not previously understood or known. Therefore, the apostle asks that God give them the ability to use wisdom in their knowledge of Him, and also to reveal to them new truths about His character and His will.
In the Christian life, knowing God is extremely important. It is important not only to understand what God wants from us, but also to have a deeper relationship with Him. Knowing God deeply helps us to trust Him more fully and to be more faithful in our obedience to Him.
Paul’s call to the Christians in Ephesus is not just for them, but for all Christians. We are to desire “may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better” in our own lives. This means that we must be humble and willing to learn from God.
We must also remember that knowing God is not an end in itself. As Christians, we should seek to know Him better so that we can better serve Him. Knowing God should lead us to a life of love and service to others.
