Interpretation of the Bible / Colossians 3:18-19
The Bible is the Word of God and therefore is the most important guide for our daily lives. One of the important topics covered in the Bible is the role of the wife in marriage and her relationship with her husband. Colossians 3:18-19 are verses that have been the subject of controversy and debate throughout Christian history and have been interpreted in many different ways.
What does submission mean in a christian marriage?
Submission is an important part of a healthy Christian marriage relationship. The Bible teaches that the husband is to be the spiritual leader and provider at home, and the wife is to be his helpmate and support. Submission is not a sign of inferiority of the wife, but rather a sign of respect for the husband’s role and position in the home.
Husbands, love your wives
Throughout history, many cultures have maintained gender roles that give men power over women, and although this has changed over time, there are still men who take advantage of their position to be violent towards their wives.
However, the Bible calls us to treat our wives with love and care. The verb “love” in these verses does not refer to illusory and artificial love, but to true, lasting, and committed love. The love we are to give our wives is a love that accepts, respects, appreciates, protects, supports, and cares for them.
