Interpretation of the Bible / Galatians 2:21
Galatians 2:21 is a verse that invites us to consider the relationship between God’s grace and justice through Christ. Paul writes these words to the Galatians to remind them of the importance of not rejecting God’s grace and to understand that, despite the Law, only Christ can guarantee justice.
Law and Grace
In Paul’s time, the Law was fundamental to Jewish life. The Law was not only a set of rules and regulations to follow, but was also considered the way to achieve justice in the eyes of God. However, Paul reminds us that the Law is not enough to achieve righteousness and that only by the grace of God, as demonstrated in the death and resurrection of Christ, can we achieve salvation.
Jesus Christ and Justice
Christ’s death on the cross is an act of divine justice and love for man. Christ took upon himself the sins of the world so that we could be right with God. Furthermore, Christ’s sacrifice not only represents divine justice, but also renews our relationship with God. Through this act of grace we are given a justice that we cannot achieve on our own.
