Interpretation of the Bible / Matthew 20:18-19
Matthew 20:18-19 is a prophecy that Jesus gave to His disciples about His upcoming crucifixion in Jerusalem. He warns them that He will be handed over to the religious leaders and condemned to death, but that He will rise again on the third day. This is interesting because it shows how aware Jesus was of His destiny, and also demonstrates His courage and divine power that enabled Him to fulfill His mission on earth.
At that time in history, the chief priests and scribes were the Jewish authorities who were against Jesus. They were the ones who handed Him over to the Roman authorities to be tried and convicted of blasphemy. It is clear that even though Jesus performed many miracles and preached the truth to the common people, He was not accepted by those in power.
Reflection of verses
The death and resurrection of Jesus are the most important events in the history of Christianity. Jesus' death was God's way of offering forgiveness and salvation to all mankind. No one else could pay for our sins, so God came to earth to do it. Jesus suffered and died in our place so that we could have eternal life.
Jesus' resurrection is proof that He had the power to conquer death, and a promise that those who believe in Him can also conquer death. Death no longer has power over those who believe in Jesus.
