Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 6:14

For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Romans 6:14 is found in the context of Paul’s letters. In these letters, the apostle Paul explains the doctrine of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

In Romans 6, Paul talks about sin and how we can be freed from the power of sin by accepting Jesus as Savior. In this verse, Paul encourages the Romans (and by extension, all Christians) to live in freedom by the grace of God.

Sin should not be our master

The first thought of this verse is clear: sin is not the master of our lives if we are under the grace of God. But what exactly does this mean? First, it means that Christians no longer need to fear eternal condemnation for their sins.

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ has set us free from the power of sin and death. But this freedom does not mean that we can do whatever we want. Instead, it means that we can live to please God rather than to satisfy our own selfish desires.

We are not under the Law

Another important point in this verse is that Christians are not under the Law. This means that we are no longer obligated to follow all the laws and rituals of the Old Testament. Instead, God’s grace offers us a way through which we can have a personal relationship with Him.

As Christians, we are not justified by our works, but by our faith in Jesus as Savior. However, this does not mean that the Law is of no value to Christians. The Law shows us the holiness and perfection of God and helps us better understand the grace that has been given to us.

Under grace

Finally, this verse carries a profound message of hope and comfort for Christians. We are under God’s grace, which means that He loves us and accepts us even when we fail.

God's grace is unmerited and is a gift given to us through faith in Jesus Christ. This means that we don't have to work to earn God's approval, and we don't have to be perfect to be loved by Him. Instead, we can trust in God's grace and live in freedom and peace.
