Interpretation of the Bible / 2 Corinthians 6:14
In 2 Corinthians 6:14, Paul exhorts the Corinthians not to marry or otherwise associate with those who do not share their faith. The primary purpose of this exhortation is to avoid corruption of the faith and purity of the lives of God’s children.
This instruction from Paul is clear and necessary because the worldliness of those unbelievers who do not serve God can defile the life of a believer. If a Christian is not careful, he or she can be swayed by worldly opinions and customs and neglect their devotion to God.
So it is not just a question of avoiding relationships with those who do not share our faith, but also of being careful in the choice of friends and the types of associations we have. We must be able to discern which people will harm or benefit us, and this includes being honest with ourselves about how we feel when interacting with those who do not share our views.
