Interpretation of the Bible / 2 Peter 1:21
2 Peter 1:21 is an important reminder of the divine nature of Bible prophecy. Often people may mistakenly assume that the Bible writers were simply creating stories and messages to suit their own interests. However, this verse ensures that we understand that prophecy comes from God and that the writers were guided by the Holy Spirit in their writings.
Prophecy is a recurring theme in the Bible, and the Old Testament in particular contains many examples of prophets delivering messages from God. These messages are not simply predictions of the future, but rather statements of God’s will for His people at that time.
The Holy Spirit often accomplishes His will through prophecy. For example, in Exodus 3:7-10, God gives Moses a task, commissioning him to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. This task is not simply a prediction, but a command from God.
