Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 10:17
Quoting Isaiah, Paul notes that the faith spoken of in the prophecy had to be born on the basis of what was heard, and this, in turn, came from God's word about the Messiah. Thus, the apostle comes to the conclusion that faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the word of God. Faith comes to a person when he hears the news about the Lord Jesus Christ, which, of course, is based on the written Word of God.
But ordinary hearing in itself is not enough. To hear God's word, it is necessary to listen not only with the ears, but also with an open heart and mind. If there is a desire to know God's truth, then the Word will ring the bell of truth, asserting its own authority. Then it cannot be disbelieved. And, of course, the hearing spoken of here does not necessarily have to be physical hearing; it can, for example, be reading. That is, "to hear" means to receive the Word in any way.
