Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 1:20

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Romans 1:20 refers to how God has revealed himself through creation. This statement challenges us to consider the omnipresence of God and His ability to reveal Himself in all of His creation.

The Bible shows us that God not only created the world, but He is present in everything He has made, from the largest to the smallest details. Therefore, creation is a testimony to the glory and majesty of God.

The divinity of God through creation

The Apostle Paul tells us that we can recognize the divinity of God by His works. This means that we can find signs in nature that indicate the existence of a Creator. When we look at the sky, the stars, the mountains, and the seas, we see the ingenuity and precision of every detail, which leads us to recognize the wisdom and power of God.

As humans, we are gifted with the ability to see and understand creation. We can admire the beauty of a landscape, the majesty of an animal, the harmony of the seasons, and the life that surrounds us. All of these are manifestations of God’s presence in our lives and an opportunity to know Him through His creation.

Human responsibility for creation

Romans 1:20 also reminds us that we cannot exempt ourselves from our responsibility as human beings towards creation. We are to care for and protect nature, occupying the position of its “administrators.” The idea that creation is a testimony to God’s glory obliges us to care for it and protect it.

Unfortunately, we often see people mistreating and abusing creation, showing a complete lack of respect for the God who created it. Since we understand that nature is a gift from God, we have a responsibility to care for it and protect it, and not allow it to be destroyed.
