Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 16:20

The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

Romans 16:20 is a word of encouragement and strength for Christians, assuring us that God will soon defeat satan and that we, as believers in Jesus, will overcome with Him. It is a declaration of promise that victory over satan is a certainty and that we, as children of God, are to hold on to that promise.

Who is satan?

Before we delve into the meaning of this passage, it is important to understand who satan is. While there is much that can be said about the devil, the Bible teaches us that satan is a fallen angel who rebelled against God and became the enemy of God and all who follow Him (Isaiah 14:12-15; Revelation 12:7-12).

Satan is known by many names, such as the devil, the deceiver, the prince of this world, and more. His goal is to turn mankind away from God and to lead them to follow his evil and sinful ways. But despite his power and cunning strategies, God has promised that satan will be defeated.

A promise to crush satan

The promise in Romans 16:20 is a confirmation of God’s victory over satan and all evil. Although satan may appear strong and powerful, God is stronger and more powerful than he is. And God has promised that through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, satan will be completely defeated.

It is interesting to note that in this verse we are given an active part in defeating satan. God says that satan will be crushed “under your feet.” This means that we are participants in God’s victory over evil and that through Christ we can have the power and authority to defeat satan.
