Interpretation of the Bible / 2 Corinthians 10:17-18
2 Corinthians 10:17-18 contains an important reflection on the need to recognize the approval that comes from the Lord. This means that we must be humble and not try to praise ourselves, because true approval comes from God.
Glorification in modern culture
In today’s culture, self-praise is everywhere: social media, advertising, professional and personal success, overconsumption, vanity, and arrogance. Such behavior is considered normal and even desirable, but it often leads to emptiness and dissatisfaction.
These verses encourage us to reflect on our intentions and behavior and consider whether we are seeking our own gain or God’s.
True glory
When we glorify ourselves, we put ourselves at the center of our lives and distance ourselves from what is truly important. On the contrary, when we glorify ourselves in the Lord, we recognize that He is the center of our lives and strive to follow His will.
True glory comes from following and obeying God, loving and serving others, and seeking justice and peace in a world full of injustice and conflict. This is the true source of happiness and satisfaction.
Praise from the Lord
In this sense, it is important to understand that God’s approval is not based on our achievements or abilities. It is not about being perfect or having special abilities. God’s approval is based on our humility and willingness to follow His teachings and always seek His will.
As Christians, we must strive to live in accordance with the values and teachings of the Bible. Humility is one of the most important values we must develop. We must recognize that everything we have and are is due to the grace of God, not to our own merits.
Furthermore, we must learn to value God’s approval above the approval of others. We often seek approval from others, but this does not always lead us down the right path. If we want to live according to God's will, we must always seek His approval.
On the other hand, it is also important to remember that these verses do not mean that we should not acknowledge or welcome the good deeds of others. If we see someone doing something good, we should express our gratitude and appreciation. However, we must do so sincerely and humbly, knowing that everything we do comes from the hand of God.
