Interpretation of the Bible / Genesis 1:29
In this Bible verse, we see God’s goodness and care for the newly created humanity. After creating the entire earth, the heavens, the animals, and man, God gives them a blessing that will enable them to survive: every plant that bears seed, and every tree that bears fruit and sows seed.
Food is a basic human need, and this Bible verse shows us how God has already foreseen this need and has provided for it abundantly. Plants and trees are the sources of nutrients that are necessary for the growth and health of the human body.
This account clearly shows that eating herbs, i.e. vegetables and tree fruits, was originally permitted by God. The ability to eat meat and other non-plant foods was given to man later, after the flood, when the covenant was made with Noah.
