Interpretation of the Bible / Galatians 3:5

So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?

Galatians 3:5 teaches us how the Holy Spirit and His power work in our lives. The Apostle Paul reminded the believers in his letter to the Galatians that the Spirit does not come by the works of the Law, but by hearing with faith. That is, it is faith that connects us with the Holy Spirit, not our actions.

What does it mean to “hear in faith”?

Hearing in faith involves hearing God’s Word with an open heart and a willingness to believe what you hear. It is an attitude of humility and trust in God, recognizing that His Word is true and that He has the power to do what He promises. It is not just about hearing with the ears, but also about hearing with the heart.

What Law is being referred to in this verse?

In this context, the Law refers to the rules and commands that God gave to the people of Israel through Moses in the Old Testament. These laws included things like circumcision, keeping the Sabbath, dietary restrictions, etc. The law became a heavy burden on the Jewish people as they sought to fulfill it on their own, thinking that this would earn them God's approval.
