Interpretation of the Bible / John 16:8
John 16:8 tells us about the work that the Holy Spirit will do in the world when He comes. This will be a very important work because it will convince the world of sin, justice, and judgment. But what do these three things mean, and how can we apply them in our lives?
Convincing the world of sin
The word “sin” comes from the Greek word “hamartia,” which means “to miss the mark.” This means that when we sin, we stray from the path that God has set for us. The Holy Spirit will convict us of sin, which means He will make us realize our mistakes and motivate us to repent. By acknowledging our mistakes, we can ask God for forgiveness, which will strengthen our relationship with Him.
Convincing the world of justice
Justice is one of the central aspects of the Bible. God is just, and in His justice, He will send His Son Jesus to save us from our sins. The Holy Spirit will convince us of this righteousness so that we will understand that the only way to salvation is through Jesus. This will motivate us to believe in Him and live according to His will.
Convince the world of judgment
The judgment is the time when we will all stand before God. During the trial, every action we take in life will be evaluated and a decision will be made accordingly. The Holy Spirit will make us aware of this judgment, which will motivate us to take our lives and actions seriously. In this way, we can prepare for the Last Judgment and live our daily lives in a way that pleases God.
