Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 111:10

Psalm 111 is a hymn of praise to God, emphasizing the greatness and wonder of His deeds in the universe and in the history of His people. But in verse 10, we find a statement that sums up the essence of the psalm: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

This statement teaches us that wisdom is found not in human knowledge, but in our relationship with God. True wisdom begins with the fear of God, which implies respect, reverence, and obedience to His commandments. This fear does not imply terror, but rather humility and trust in God.

Therefore, the wisdom preached in the Bible is not simply theoretical knowledge, but a way of life based on God's principles and applied in everyday decisions.

All who do His commandments have a good understanding

The verse continues: "all who follow his precepts have good understanding." This means that, in addition to fearing God, we must observe and apply His commandments in practice to truly understand His will.

The connection between obedience and understanding is evident throughout the Bible. For example, Proverbs 1:7 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." And James 1:22 says, "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."

Therefore, wisdom is not simply a gift God gives to a select few, but is available to all who seek His will and apply it in their daily lives.

His praise endures forever

The verse concludes with the encouraging statement, "To him belongs eternal praise." In other words, God is worthy of praise, and His works are eternal. While human knowledge and trends change rapidly, God's wisdom is timeless, and His will endures forever.

This thought calls us to trust in God's faithfulness and place our hope in His promises. It also reminds us that wisdom exists not only for personal gain, but also for the glory of God and the common good.
