Interpretation of the Bible / 2 Corinthians 8:12

For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.

The Second Epistle to the Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul, who sent it to believers living in the city of Corinth. In this book, Paul touches on topics related to the Christian life, and one of them is generosity. In particular, 2 Corinthians 8:12 tells us about the willingness to give.

The meaning of the verse

In this verse, Paul tells us that it is not the amount we give that is important, but our attitude toward giving. Although the intentions of our hearts are sometimes not reflected in what we bring to God, the Lord always sees our willingness and desire to give. Moreover, we cannot give what we do not have. Our intention is valuable if we have the will to give, even if what we give is small.
