Interpretation of the Bible / John 3:3
In this verse, Jesus is talking to Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Sanhedrin. Nicodemus recognizes Jesus as a divine teacher and comes to Him with questions. In response, Jesus tells him that one must be born again to see the kingdom of God.
This is the concept of being “born again.” Jesus is talking about the spiritual rebirth that occurs when someone becomes a follower of Christ. It is a total transformation that changes your heart, mind, and soul.
What does it mean to be born again?
Being born again means leaving our old life of sin behind and starting a new life in Christ. It is admitting that we are sinners and that we need salvation. It is believing in Jesus as our Savior and following His teachings.
Most people think of baptism when they hear the phrase “born again.” While baptism is an important symbol of spiritual rebirth, it is not rebirth in itself. Spiritual rebirth occurs in your heart when you accept Christ as your Savior.
Why is it important to be born again?
It is important because without spiritual rebirth we cannot enter the kingdom of God. As Jesus said in John 3:5, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.” The water in this verse refers to baptism, which is also a symbol of spiritual rebirth.
Being born again is also important because it changes our lives. When we are born again, we receive the Holy Spirit, who gives us the power to live a holy life that is obedient to God.
