Interpretation of the Bible / John 11:40
In John 11, we find the story of the resurrection of Lazarus. In this passage, we see Jesus arriving in Bethany after receiving news that his friend Lazarus was sick. However, Jesus was slow in arriving, and when he finally arrived, Lazarus had already died and was buried in a tomb.
Mary and Martha, Lazarus’ sisters, were heartbroken over his death, and Jesus was moved and wept. It was then that Jesus told them the phrase found in John 11:40: “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
This statement by Jesus is a call to faith. Jesus was telling Martha that if she believed in him, she would see the glory of God revealed in the resurrection of Lazarus.
This phrase also shows us the infinite wisdom and power of God. It is an invitation to trust God and believe that He can do what seems impossible to us.
