Interpretation of the Bible / John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27 is the promise of peace that Jesus gives to his disciples before his death on the cross. But what does Jesus mean when he speaks of peace?
We have peace - wonderful peace with God, because we have been saved from the bondage of sin. Through faith in Christ's finished work of redemption, we have peace with God, because Christ is the propitiation for our sins, who made peace with God for us.
From Romans 5:1, we can understand the kind of peace the Lord spoke of before the crucifixion: "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
