Interpretation of the Bible / Ezekiel 18:30b

Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.

Ezekiel 18:30 speaks of the responsibility we bear before God for our actions and decisions. We are judged by our own actions and attitudes, not by those of our parents or ancestors. To avoid destruction, we are called to repent of our sins and turn from sin.

The justice of God

It is important to emphasize that God's judgment is fair and impartial. Each person is judged by their own path, which demonstrates that God knows our thoughts, intentions, attitudes, and motives. He judges us not for our affiliation with a particular family, culture, or race, but for the choices we make in our lives.

The importance of repentance

The call to repentance is constantly present throughout the Bible. It means acknowledging one's mistakes and shortcomings, rejecting them, and striving for change in one's life, turning toward God and His commandments.

In other words, it implies a complete conversion. Repentance isn't simply a feeling of sorrow or remorse for one's actions, but rather an action aimed at correcting one's actions, that is, changing one's behavior.

The connection between lawlessness and destruction

This verse clearly tells us that lawlessness, that is, the lack of justice and wickedness, can lead us to destruction. Our wrong decisions can have serious and long-lasting consequences not only in our lives but also in the lives of those around us. However, there is good news: we can avoid destruction. God offers us a way out through repentance and conversion.
