Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28 is one of the most recognizable and quoted verses in the Bible. It tells us that everything that happens to those who love God works together for good, and this includes those who are called according to His purpose.

This verse reminds us that even though we often cannot understand the events that happen to us, we can be confident that God has a purpose for each of them.

Our choice to love God

This verse talks about the importance of loving God. Choosing to love God is one of the most important decisions we can make in our lives. By acknowledging His love for us and choosing to love Him in return, we open the door to experiencing His grace and help at all times.

The phrase “loving God” suggests that love is a conscious choice, not just a passing feeling.

Not all things are good, but God uses them for good

It is important to note that this verse does not say that everything that happens to us is good. On the contrary, we often face difficult situations, such as loss, illness, or interpersonal conflict.

However, this verse assures us that, no matter what, God can use these circumstances for our good. Not necessarily in the sense that the situation itself is good, but in the sense that we can learn, grow, and draw closer to God in the midst of suffering.

A call to trust God

This verse mentions that God calls those according to His purpose. This suggests that God has a specific plan for each of us. But often we are lost, not knowing what our purpose is or where we should go.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that even if we don’t understand everything that is happening, we can be confident that God is always working for our good and that His purpose will always be better than any plan we could come up with on our own.
