Interpretation of the Bible / Hebrews 3:4

For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

The Bible is a source of teaching and wisdom that enables us to understand who God is and how we can live in harmony with His will. In this sense, the book of Hebrews is one of the most profound and complex books on man’s relationship with God.

It covers topics such as salvation, faith, and obedience, and attempts to describe the superiority of Jesus as a high priest over the priests of the Old Testament.

Every house is made by someone

This statement, “every house is made by someone,” is a concrete example of the fact that everything that exists needs an origin, a cause, a creator. We know very well that houses do not build themselves; that behind them are human effort, planning, and an investment of time and resources.

But if this is true of the material things we can see, shouldn’t it be true of everything else? Of course, the Bible tells us about a supreme, omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent being who created the universe and who upholds it by his providence. This being is God, the creator of all things.

He who created all things is God

The second part of the verse complements the first statement: “He who created all things is God.” It reveals the relationship between the creator and the created. God is not an abstract force, impersonal and without personality, but a real being who exists in himself and has the ability to create.

He not only created the universe, but also gave it structure and order. This means that God is the owner and master of all things, and we are His creations, His property. This does not mean that we are slaves or puppets, but that we are beings with a responsibility and a purpose which we must seek in God.
