But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

The book of 1 Peter was written by the apostle Peter to comfort and exhort Christians who were exiled to Asia Minor. In this passage, Peter calls believers to be prepared to defend their faith.

The right attitude

Peter tells us that we are to present our defense with meekness and reverence. Meekness refers to the humility and gentleness of our hearts. We are to be gentle when presenting our defense, without arrogance or selfishness.

It is important to have the right attitude when we present our defense of our faith. We should not attack or ridicule those who challenge our faith. Instead, we should be respectful and loving, remembering that our job is to share the gospel of love and hope.
