Interpretation of the Bible / Isaiah 53:4

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.

Isaiah 53:4 is a verse from the prophecy of the Suffering Servant, found in Isaiah 52:13–53:12. This Servant is a model of humility and obedience, and according to Isaiah 53:4, He bears our griefs and suffers for our sorrows.

The traditional interpretation is that Isaiah is speaking of a future Messiah who suffered and died for the sins of the world. Although there are alternative interpretations, most Christians believe that Isaiah is prophesying the sufferings of Christ. In fact, the New Testament quotes Isaiah 53 several times in reference to Jesus and His suffering.
