Interpretation of the Bible / 2 Timothy 2:11
The Apostle Paul, the writer of Timothy, presents us with one of the most important truths of the Christian faith in this verse of the Bible. The word “trustworthy” tells us that what is said is true and trustworthy.
If we died with him, we will also live with him
Paul tells us that “If we died with him, we will also live with him.” This is a clear reference to the death and resurrection of Christ and our part in it. To better understand this concept, we must remember that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for our sins and rose again on the third day as proof of His victory over sin and death.
So when we surrender to Him, we realize that our own efforts to save ourselves are futile and we are truly crucified with Christ (Galatians 2:20). This means that our sinful nature and our old life died with Him on the cross. Moreover, by being resurrected with Him, we receive new life in Him, an eternal life of love and grace.
