Interpretation of the Bible / Genesis 50:20

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

Genesis 50:20 is part of the life story of Joseph, one of Jacob's twelve sons in the Old Testament. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers in his youth and spent many years in Egypt, where he was eventually elevated to a position of leadership by Pharaoh.

In this verse, Joseph speaks to his brothers after the death of their father, Jacob. Joseph forgave his brothers for all they had done to him, understanding that God used their actions to achieve His purposes.

God's grace in the midst of evil

This verse is proof of God's grace and sovereignty. Although the plans of Joseph's brothers were malicious, God worked behind the scenes to correct the situation. Joseph's story shows that although we may be victims of violence and injustice, God is able to turn it all into good.
