Interpretation of the Bible / Proverbs 9:10

The idea that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” is found in several biblical passages, including Proverbs 1:7, Job 28:28, and Psalm 111:10. In Proverbs 9:10, Solomon explains that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, the knowledge and reverence of the God of justice and truth. Wisdom is the fruit of knowing God Almighty and therefore cannot be found without a relationship with Him.

What is the fear of the Lord?

The fear of God does not mean being afraid of Him, but rather respect, reverence, and worship. It is the right attitude toward the Creator, recognizing God as sovereign and supreme in all things. This fear of God involves an inner attitude, an attitude of humility and trust, as well as an attitude of love and submission in obedience.

Why is knowing God’s Word important?

Knowing God's Word is fundamental to developing a right relationship with Him. Knowing the Bible gives us a proper understanding of how we should live in the world as righteous and just people. Through God's Word, we can know that doing what is right is an act of obedience and love for God.
