Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 37:3

Psalm 37 is a verse of David revealing the divine wisdom necessary for a just and happy life in this world. In verse 3, the psalmist lays out a simple yet profound teaching.

Trust in the Lord

The first part of this verse is a call to trust in God. The psalmist reminds us that our relationship with God must be founded on faith and trust in His love and wisdom. In a world full of uncertainty and situations beyond our control, trust in God is an anchor for our souls.

Do good

However, this trust in God is not simply a passive feeling; it is expressed in concrete actions: "do good." Here the psalmist reminds us that faith without works is dead, and that our love for God must be demonstrated in concrete acts of kindness and justice toward our neighbors.

But why do good works motivate us to live on earth and feed on truth? The answer lies in the very logic of the universe. If we sow the seeds of goodness and justice, we will reap the fruits of peace and harmony in our relationships with others. If, on the contrary, we sow the seeds of selfishness and evil, we will reap the bitter fruits of discord and violence.

Preserve the truth

Furthermore, the psalmist tells us that good deeds allow us to "feed on the truth." This means that by acting justly and lovingly, we are in harmony with the deep reality of the universe, founded on truth, justice, and love. In contrast, selfishness and malice separate us from this reality and immerse us in a world of illusions and lies.
