Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Having a Son to have eternal life

This refers to those who have experienced the presence and power of Jesus in their lives and have fully trusted Him.

Why we need Jesus to have life

The first man, Adam, sinned, and since then all people have inherited sin and are separated from God. The Bible teaches that there is no way for people to be saved on their own; they need a Savior. In the New Testament, Jesus is that salvation. Only those who believe in Him and accept His Sacrifice on the Cross can be saved and have eternal life.
