Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 12:10

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

One of the most important commands of Christ to His followers is that we love one another with brotherly love. This is the essence of Romans 12:10, where the apostle Paul teaches us to love one another with all our hearts and to esteem one another better than ourselves.

What does brotherly love mean?

Brotherly love is a love based on family. It is a love that goes beyond blood and extends to all who are saved by faith in Christ. It is a love that puts the welfare of others above our own and moves people to be genuinely and generously involved in the lives of others.

What does it mean to prefer others?

To prefer others means to give others a privileged place in our lives, to treat them with the same respect that we would treat ourselves. It means to honor and respect others and to do everything we can to demonstrate our friendship and affection for them. Rather than seeking personal success or satisfaction, we should seek the welfare of others.
