Interpretation of the Bible / Lamentations 5:19

You, Lord, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation.

Lamentations is one of the most moving books in the Old Testament, with Jeremiah lamenting the destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of God’s people. Although weeping and sorrow are constant in his writings, in chapter 5, verse 19, Jeremiah reminds us of a great truth when he writes, “You, Lord, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation.”

In many ways, life can present us with sad and painful circumstances, illnesses, losses, failures, etc. We feel that everything is changing and nothing will ever be the same again. It is easy to lose faith and hope in such moments, but we must remember that God never changes and His constancy is eternal. This verse is a reminder that God is eternal, that His love and faithfulness are unchanging, and that His throne of righteousness will endure forever.
