Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 62:7

Psalm 62 is a psalm of trust in God in the midst of adversity. The psalmist begins by affirming that his soul silently trusts in God alone. Then, in verse 7, the psalmist declares that both his salvation and his glory come from God. In this verse, the author presents God as his stronghold and refuge, that is, as his protector.

In God is my salvation

The concept of salvation in the Bible comes from the Hebrew word "Yeshua," which means "freedom," "victory," or "prosperity." Salvation in God goes beyond physical salvation; it focuses on the salvation of our souls and reconciliation with God. Our salvation comes from God, and we can do nothing to earn it. Faith in God leads us to trust in His grace and accept the salvation He offers.

In God is my glory

Glory in the context of verse 7 refers to the reputation and honor the psalmist receives from God. By saying that his glory is in God, the psalmist acknowledges that his honor and reputation depend on God's approval, not on man. Glory in God refers to the joy we experience when we are recognized for His love and grace. As Christians, we should strive only to glorify God in everything we do and who we are.

In God is my rock and my fortress

The image of God as a solid rock and refuge implies the safety and protection we find in Him. God is our strength, our firm rock upon which we can rely. It is in Him that we find the protection and confidence we need to overcome life's adversities. In times of uncertainty, anxiety, and fear, faith in God gives us the peace we need.
