SVG In Christ

Interpretation of the Bible / Mark 8:35

For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.

In Mark 8:35, Jesus gives one of His most famous teachings. This verse raises an important thought about life and salvation, and the role of Jesus and the gospel in it.

What does this verse mean?

In this passage, Jesus is talking about the importance of not clinging to our lives, but giving them up to follow Him. He calls us to give our lives “for His sake and the gospel,” which means living a life centered on Christ and His message. And in this process, we will find “salvation.”

“Salvation” here means not only eternal life, but also a full and meaningful life in this world. If we cling to our own lives, we miss out on the opportunity to live fully in Christ and experience the victory that comes with such self-giving.
