Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 34:16

The wrath of the Lord

Divine wrath is one of the most complex and difficult aspects of the Bible to understand. Fundamentally, God's wrath is an expression of His justice and holiness. When God sees evil in the world, His justice moves Him to punish those who do evil.

This wrath is a natural consequence of His love and divine justice. We humans find it difficult to understand how a loving God can also be a God of wrath. However, it is important to remember that God's wrath is always just and consistent with His will for the world.

Eliminating the memory of evil

The second part of Psalm 34:16 states that the memory of those who do evil from the earth will be erased. This verse is a powerful and compelling statement, emphasizing the importance of righteous actions and the unacceptability of sin.

If a person lives in evil, rejecting truth and justice, their memory can be erased from the face of the earth. This may seem like a harsh sentence, but it is the reality presented in the Bible. Memory erasure can be understood as a sentence of oblivion. God ceases to remember those who do evil, and their memory fades over time.
