Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 90:2

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Psalm 90 proclaims the greatness and majesty of God in His sovereignty and creative power. Verse 2 speaks of God's creation; before the mountains and earth were formed, He already was God. Moreover, it mentions that He existed from everlasting to everlasting, meaning He has no beginning and no end.

God's creation and His eternity

The Bible teaches us that God created the world and that everything in it was created by Him. Even before the earth and mountains were formed, He already existed. This statement leads us to understand that God is not dependent on His creation; that is, He does not need anything or anyone to exist, but He is the source of all things, and all things depend on Him.

While we humans have a beginning and an end, God has neither beginning nor end; He is eternal. This characteristic of God shows us that He always was and always will be, and His power and authority are always at work. Therefore, we can be confident that God controls everything that happens in the world and in our lives.
