Interpretation of the Bible / James 3:13
Every day, the world offers us different ways to establish our wisdom and understanding. From educational systems to social media and television, everyone will tell us that there are certain ways to be wise and understand life. But what does the Bible say about true wisdom?
Who is wise and understanding?
James 3:13 begins with this rhetorical question that challenges anyone who reads it. The central idea is that true wisdom is hard to find, but we can still identify it by how we live.
Good behavior and wise gentleness
The second part of the verse sets an important criterion for identifying true wisdom: good behavior and wise gentleness. Here, James reminds us that words and teachings are incomplete unless they are reflected in actions that match the message.
Application to our lives
As Christians, wisdom and understanding should be a fundamental part of our lives. Good behavior and wise meekness are two of the main fruits we must meditate on to demonstrate our true wisdom.
It is important to remember that both qualities must go hand in hand, since good behavior without wise meekness can appear hypocritical, and meekness without good behavior can be ineffective.
