Interpretation of the Bible / Isaiah 55:7

Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

Isaiah 55 speaks of God's call to His people to come to Him and receive His blessings. In verse 6, God calls them to seek Him while He is available, and it is in this context that verse 7 calls us to turn from our wicked ways and return to God and His mercy.

Let the wicked forsake his way

God calls us to forsake the wicked and sinful paths we have strayed into. The word "wicked" in this verse refers to those who have been unrighteous and have gone against God's will. Wicked ways will lead us to destruction and separation from God. It is important to remember that we cannot serve two masters and must choose between God and the world.

Evil thoughts

Our thoughts and desires can lead us to temptation and sin. God calls us to reject the evil thoughts that separate us from Him and replace them with thoughts of love, kindness, and justice. We must remember that God knows our deepest thoughts, and if we want to draw closer to Him, we must be sincere and strive for purity of heart.

Return to the Lord

Turning away from our evil ways and evil thoughts, we must turn to God and His mercy. God awaits with open arms those who repent and turn to Him. His love and forgiveness are boundless and always available to us.

God will be generous in forgiveness

The verse concludes with the promise of God's forgiveness and mercy. He is ready to forgive us and cleanse us from all our sins. We must remember that no sin is too grave for God to forgive, and that He is always ready to receive us.
