The Gospel of Luke describes Jesus’ encounter with Jairus, the ruler of the city’s synagogue, who had lost his 12-year-old daughter. When Jesus went to his home to heal the girl, He learned that she had already died. It was at this point that Jesus spoke these comforting words: “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed” (Luke 8:50).
