Interpretation of the Bible / 1 Corinthians 3:9
1 Corinthians 3:9 is one of the most beautiful expressions of God and man cooperating. The Apostle Paul uses this word to describe how God works with his followers in the world.
What does it mean to co-operate with God?
First, the term “co-worker” implies partnership or cooperation in the work of God. Paul says that they are not simply “workers” of God, but that they are actively involved with Him in building His Kingdom. This cooperation involves more than simply following God’s commands, but also conscious and creative participation in God’s work.
God’s plow
The verse also mentions that we are God’s “farm,” which has profound implications. Tilling the soil is the process of preparing the land for fruitfulness, requiring persistent and constant labor.
So we can take this verse as an invitation to the work of preparing our souls, an inner work we do to prepare our hearts for God’s purposes. The Holy Spirit is at work in us, preparing us to bear fruit in love, peace, patience, and humility.
God’s building
Finally, the verse mentions that we are “God’s building.” This term refers to the church, the community of believers. The church, in turn, is the place where we gather to serve God and grow together as children of God.
