Interpretation of the Bible / Matthew 18:17

If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Matthew 18:17 is part of Jesus’ teaching on forgiveness and reconciliation in the church. This passage tells us what to do when someone in the church has sinned and refuses to repent and ask for forgiveness.

Why is this passage important?

Matthew 18:17 is of great importance to the church and Christians because it gives us clear guidance on how to approach sin and forgiveness in the Christian community. It reminds us that the church has a responsibility to help those who have sinned, not just to punish or judge them. Furthermore, it reminds us that all members of the church have a responsibility to correct and build others up.
