Interpretation of the Bible / Matthew 7:3
One of the most important messages the Bible can teach us is found in Matthew 7:3, which calls us to think about how we criticize others. Although we tend to be judgmental of others, this verse calls us to stop and ask ourselves why we do it and what role we play in that criticism.
The meaning of the speck of sawdust and the plank
The mote and the beam metaphor suggests that it is much easier to see the faults of others than it is to see our own, as if we were looking into an upside-down mirror. If we think about this metaphor carefully, we will realize that the mote in our brother’s eye can symbolize his minor faults and unresolved issues, while the beam in our own eye can symbolize the more serious faults and imperfections that we ourselves have but do not want to see.
Self-knowledge and self-esteem
It is therefore important to learn to understand ourselves, identify our strengths and weaknesses, and then reflect on how we can improve as individuals. Self-esteem is a simple yet effective tool for identifying our own shortcomings and working on them, rather than dwelling on the mistakes of others.
Don’t judge others
This verse also reminds us not to judge others, either for their mistakes or for their actions. Instead, we should help them find the right path by offering our support whenever they need it. It is important to remember that everyone is different, and what works for one may not necessarily work for another.
