Interpretation of the Bible / 1 John 2:15
1 John 2:15 is a direct warning from the apostle John to all believers in Jesus, instructing them not to love the world and the things in the world. But what exactly does it mean to love the world?
In the biblical context, “the world” refers to a system of values and priorities that are contrary to the principles of God. It is a selfish, egocentric way of thinking and acting that leads to the idolatry of money, power, and fame, which are temporary and have no eternal value.
Love for the Father is not in them
Here John illustrates that the love of God and the love of the world are opposites. If we love the things of the world, we cannot love God. This is a call to spiritual reflection and a reminder that it is difficult to put God first if we live for the world.
