Interpretation of the Bible / Matthew 4:17
The verse Matthew 4:17 is a call to repentance and a promise that the kingdom of heaven has already arrived. In this context, Jesus begins his public ministry. He is speaking to the people after being baptized by John the Baptist and tempted by Satan in the wilderness.
Repenting means acknowledging and confessing sin, feeling regret and pain for having committed it, and committing not to do it again. In the life of Jesus, we see that repentance was a recurring theme. The message of repentance is an invitation to return to God and his plan for our lives.
The kingdom of heaven is where God reigns supreme and has absolute power. It is the place where those people who have accepted Jesus as their Savior will receive their eternal reward. It is a kingdom of love, justice, and peace.
