Interpretation of the Bible / Proverbs 4:27

Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

The book of Proverbs is rich in practical wisdom and timeless advice that helps believers live righteous and just lives. In verse 27 of chapter 4, we are called to turn not to the right hand or to the left, but to keep our feet from evil.

Do not wander

The first part of the verse is a warning not to wander in life. It is a call to focus on our path and not to be distracted by extraneous things. When we stray from the path, we can end up in a place we do not want to be, where we are farther from God.

Stay on the right path

The second part of the verse speaks of the need to stay on the right path. This means that we must make a conscious and deliberate decision to turn away from evil and toward goodness and truth.
