Interpretation of the Bible / 2 Corinthians 4:18

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

In 2 Corinthians 4:18 we can find a profound reflection on our view of life and the things around us. The author tells us that we should not focus only on what we see in our material world, but look beyond the temporary and transitory to what is eternal.

Looking into the unseen

According to the text, we should focus on what we cannot see, which may seem strange at first, since we have always been taught to believe the evidence of our senses and trust what we see in front of us. But Paul encourages us to abandon this limited thinking and begin to think about what is beyond what our eyes can perceive.

What surrounds us in the material world is temporary, transitory, and of no value beyond this life, but what we cannot see, what is eternal, has incalculable value and leads us to a more spiritual view of life.
