Psalm 63:3-4 expresses the psalmist's profound gratitude to God and his recognition that God's mercy is more important than anything else in life.

God's mercy

Mercy is one of God's most important qualities. God's mercy is an act of unmerited love that bestows His grace and forgiveness upon us. This love is based not on what we do or who we are, but on who God is. When we recognize God's mercy in our lives, we can experience deep gratitude and a strong desire to glorify Him.

Life and mercy

The psalmist compares God's mercy to life itself, saying that mercy is better than life. This does not mean that life is unimportant, but rather that God's mercy is more valuable than anything else in life. Life is a gift from God, but it is God's mercy and love that give us purpose and meaning in life.

Blessing in life

In Psalm 63:3-4, we find the promise of blessing in our lives if we praise and honor God. The word "bless" means "to wish something good for someone," and in this case, it's crucial to note that the protagonist is David himself, who says, "I will bless you." He is the one who takes the initiative in seeking God and worshiping Him, so the blessing is not an automatic gift, but the result of a heart seeking God in one's life.

Let's raise our hands

In the Psalms, David also says, "In Your name I will lift up my hands." Raising our hands to heaven is a physical gesture expressing our desire for God's presence. By saying "in Your name," David means that he seeks God, recognizing who He is and what His name means. God's name is holy, and by proclaiming it and raising our hands, we acknowledge His power and majesty.
