Interpretation of the Bible / Ephesians 5:8

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.

This verse in Ephesians 5:8 talks about the transformation that happens in us when we surrender to the Lord and how we are to reflect that light in our daily lives.

First, we can analyze the part of the verse that says, “For you were once darkness.” This phrase refers to our former live, before we met Jesus, in which we lived in spiritual darkness. During this time, it was easy to fall into sin and stray from the truth. However, everything changes when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior.

The second part of the verse says, “but now you are light in the Lord.” When we accept Christ into our lives, we become carriers of His light and love. This light allows us to see clearly and better understand God’s will for our lives. It also helps us distinguish good from evil and make better decisions.

Finally, the verse concludes with the words, “Live as children of light.” In other words, we must live our daily lives remembering that we are God's children and carry within us the light He has given us. We must strive to be a reflection of Christ in everything we do and always strive to do what is right in every situation.
