Interpretation of the Bible / Acts 16:31

The verse in question, Acts 16:31, is a dialogue between the apostle Paul and a Roman jailer. The jailer, after an earthquake shook the foundations of the prison, approached Paul and asked him what he should do to be saved. The answer was short and powerful!

The meaning of being saved

The idea of ​​being “saved” is central to Christianity, but what exactly does it mean? Essentially, it refers to being set free from our sinful condition and receiving forgiveness and eternal life. This process of being “saved” begins when we believe in Jesus and acknowledge that He is our Savior.

The importance of faith

Paul’s advice to the jailer was to “Believe in the Lord Jesus.” In other words, believing in Jesus is what leads us to salvation. However, this does not mean simply believing that Jesus existed or that He was a wise man. Faith is a deep personal commitment to Jesus as our Savior, and it involves trusting Him, following His teachings, and turning our lives over to Him.

A promise for the family

The verse also mentions that “you will be saved—you and your household.” This promise does not necessarily mean that all family members will automatically be saved, regardless of their faith and personal decision. Instead, it can be understood as an invitation to lead our family in faith, showing them the way to Christ and encouraging them to believe.
