Interpretation of the Bible / Matthew 10:38
Matthew 10:38 is found in Jesus’ address to the disciples. He was giving them instructions on how to share the gospel with the world, but we want to highlight the part where He tells them the cost of following Him. At that time, taking up the cross was a death sentence, and following Jesus meant accepting an uncertain fate.
Reflecting on the verse
Jesus made the consequences of following Him clear. He called us to deny ourselves and take up our cross. For some, the cross may symbolize illness or hardship, for others, persecution or rejection. Either way, Jesus calls us to follow Him even in difficult times.
The cross is a symbol of our faith and a constant reminder of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Instead of rejecting the cross, we must embrace it so that we can follow Jesus with all our hearts.
