Interpretation of the Bible / Nahum 1:7
The Book of Nahum is one of the 12 prophetic books of the Old Testament in the Bible, telling of the fall of the Assyrian Empire and a prediction of a second invasion. The prophet Nahum presents the Lord as a righteous judge who brings restoration to God’s people and destruction to the oppressors. In Nahum 1:7, God’s goodness is emphasized in the midst of suffering.
The word “goodness” in Hebrew is translated as “khetsed,” which means faithful love and faithfulness. It refers to God’s constant faithfulness and goodwill toward His people. In times of anguish, when all seems dark and hopeless, God is our strength, our rock, on whom we can lean and in whom we can find safety.
In these difficult times, this verse reminds us that God is present in our lives. He knows our pain and our inner struggles. God is a faithful friend who will never abandon us. It is He who gives us the strength to overcome the difficulties and trials that we face. And in the midst of the storm He gives us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
